D&E in the News

05-05-08 - Giving back to the community

D&E is committed to giving back to the community in which our employees work and live. Sally Landis, Provisioning Manager, gives time to the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), a nonprofit educational association.

FBLA, brings together high school students who are eager to learn about the business world. Within this association students develop the needed leadership skills and traits that help them become top candidates for employment.

Sally has been a volunteer judge for the FBLA State Leadership Conference for two years. "I attended the State Conference last year as a judge and was amazed," said Sally. Each year over 2,800 student members and advisors come together in April to compete in events and attend leadership development seminars. The conference is also a time for members to campaign for state office.

In addition, to judging this years state conference, Sally also judged the local regional conference. Sally can't get over the incredible experience that these conferences bring. The goal of the organization is to develop aggressive business leaders and strengthen the confidence of students.

Sally thinks it's incredible to see the students desire for success through their ambition, commitment, and professionalism. "I started this as a volunteer judge with the intent to serve," she said, "I ended up being the one served; I walked away more rejuvenated, inspired, and motivated to make a difference."
