D&E COMMUNICATIONS, INC. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 23, 2005 | NEWS RELEASE CONTACT PERSON: |
EPHRATA, PA - D&E Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: DECC) has presented three employees with its annual "Delivering Excellence" awards. Named for members of the company's founding family, the awards are D&E's highest honor, recognizing support of key company initiatives.
Glen E. Esenwein, Outside Plant Engineering Manager, received the William F. Brossman Founders Award. Esenwein plays an integral role in designing a network that will provide reliable service for customers, including increased broadband availability. He also works hard to establish strong relationships with customers. Esenwein has worked extensively with Kutztown Borough, where D&E provides telephone service as part of the borough's innovative municipal fiber-optic network. Active in the telecommunications industry, Esenwein is board chair of PA One Call, the statewide notification system to locate underground facilities prior to construction or excavation projects. He also participates in the Outside Plant Committee of the Pennsylvania Telephone Association. Esenwein is a resident of Douglassville.
Troy A. Wingenroth, Billing Services Manager, received the Bertha B. Blair Leadership Award. He coordinated a company-wide effort to consolidate D&E's billing operations onto an in-house system. The project required the collaborative efforts of D&E's Information Technology staff, as well as numerous other departments throughout the company. Throughout the project, Wingenroth kept customers' needs at the center of the decision-making process. When the new bills went out in the fall of 2004, some customers even called to compliment D&E on the new format. In addition, the project is expected to reduce annual billing expenses by approximately $1.6 million. Wingenroth is a resident of Lititz.
William S. Young, Risk Manager, received the Anne B. Sweigart Community Service Award in recognition of his involvement in the community. He is a leader of the company's Safety Committee and Wellness Committee. He also serves as president of the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Risk and Insurance Management Society. He leads the company's United Way fund-raising campaign, and the United Way of Lancaster County recently honored him as an Outstanding Coordinator. He assisted an employee organization, the Bertha B. Blair Telephone Founders Association, with its fall 2004 auction that raised money for a local family with extraordinary medical expenses. Young organized a bike rodeo to teach children about bike safety and has participated in fund-raising walks and races to raise money for organizations including the American Heart Association and Hands-on-House children's museum. Young is a resident of Stevens.
