EPHRATA, PA -- D&E Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: DECC) has launched new services designed to monitor customers' online presence and communication ability, enabling them to proactively address any performance issues.

D&E's Basic External Monitoring services provide 24-hour-a-day monitoring of a company's Internet access, e-mail and website availability. The service also tracks response time for queries to a website, the status of anti-virus service, and other performance metrics.

"If Internet access, e-mail or a website goes down, that can have a crippling effect on a company's ability to conduct business," said Paul Ross, D&E's Vice President of Systems Integration. "With our External Monitoring services, we proactively monitor each of these critical functions for our customers and alert them if there is a problem."

"Businesses gain a number of key benefits from External Monitoring. They will learn if a critical system is down before their customers call in to ask about it. It gives a business the ability to be proactive and provide more reliable service to their customers," Ross explained. "Our service also eliminates the need for a company's IT staff to spend the time on manual processes to monitor their network. That allows their in-house resources to focus on strategic issues and drive their business forward."

By regularly monitoring performance, businesses gain data that will enable them to more efficiently plan capacity. With D&E's External Monitoring, customers can gain these advantages without making the sizable capital investment that would be necessary to develop this 24-hour monitoring on their own. The External Monitoring services make use of the state-of-the-art software D&E uses to monitor its own network performance. Reliability is critical for D&E, which has been in business for more than 100 years as a telephone company, and more recently as an Internet service and computer network systems integration provider.

Each customer works with D&E to customize their own thresholds for acceptable service and designate who should receive alerts if the status falls below that level. D&E's professional services technicians are available to help the customer trouble-shoot and resolve the issue, if necessary.

D&E, based in Lancaster County, Pa., offers high-speed data, Internet access, local and long distance telephone, voice and data networking, network management and security, and video services. For more information, visit www.decommunications.com.
