11-18-08 - Mr. Scott Burky, VP of Sales and Customer Service, receives the MS Leadership Award
EPHRATA, PA - D&E Communication's employee receives one of the highest honors bestowed by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
At an award reception in September; Scott Burky, VP of Sales and Customer Service received the MS Leadership Award. This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their profession and to the community. Receiving this award also allowed Burky to be invited as a member of the Lancaster MS Leadership Class of 2008.
As a member of the Lancaster MS Leadership Class of 2008, Burky and the other honorees took on the responsibility to help heighten the awareness of multiple sclerosis in the Susquehanna Valley area. Philip Wenger, honorary chair of the class, challenged each member to raise $1,500 in addition to the contributions given at their annual event. With the money donated the Lancaster MS Leadership Class of 2008 will be able to help 5,500 Central Pennsylvanians and their families who suffer from MS. Other portions of the raised funds will go to the research in finding a cure.
The task of raising $1,500 wasn't difficult for Burky who looked to friends and family for help. D&E Communications was the first to contribute by providing a $1,000 sponsorship in support of his nomination. Friends and family jumped on board right away by giving their efforts to the cause. The rest of the money was raised by Burky himself and his wife Kay.
